 Nashville police published images of the scene on Monday night. According to police, the shooter broke a door's glass to get inside the structure. While on the second floor, the shooter opened fire out of a window at approaching police cars.

Authorities claimed that the shooter was armed with two assault-style rifles and a pistol, and that the shooting occurred in a "lobby-type space" in the school's upper section. By 10:27 a.m., the shooter had passed away, Aaron added. According to the authorities, two of those guns were legitimately purchased.

 

Police said the shooter was a former student but have not said anything about a potential motive. On Monday afternoon, police identified the shooter as Audrey Hale of Nashville. Hale had no criminal history.

Hale had multiple rounds of ammunition and was "prepared for a confrontation with law enforcement," Nashville Police Chief John Drake said. He said the shooter had maps drawn of the school and its entry points.

Drake said the parents of the children who were killed have been notified. "I was literally moved to tears to see this and the kids as they were being ushered out of the building," he said earlier

 

At least five of the patients were sent to Vanderbilt University Medical Center's emergency rooms. NPR received confirmation from a hospital representative that three of the two adults and three children who were admitted had passed away.

Aaron stated that he was not aware of any further shooting victims with bullet wounds. He said that a responding officer had suffered a glass-cut wound.

There was a nearby reunification centre for parents and students with mental health professionals present.

Preschool through sixth grade children are served by the private Covenant School, which is connected to the Covenant Presbyterian Church. According to Aaron, the school typically has 42 staff members and 209 pupils enrolled.

Nashville has joined the "dreaded, lengthy list" of cities and towns that have had school shootings, according to Mayor John Cooper.

Cooper remarked, "My heart goes out to the families of the victims." "Our whole city is behind you."

State Representative Bob Freeman of Tennessee, whose district encompasses the school, claimed it was "a tragedy beyond comprehension for the victims, all the kids, families, teachers, staff, and my entire neighbourhood. The president described the massacre in Nashville as "sick," "heartbreaking," and "a family's worst nightmare."
